The match saw questionable calls made by the officials which resulted in furore from the Mestalla faithful. However, with the 1-1 result away from home, it is the Catalan club who have the advantage to continue their march to Copa del Rey final.
Despite being content with the stalemate, the Argentinean star coyly accepted that a win would have been better.
The former Argentinean captain praised the resilient Los Che, who managed to keep La Blaugrana at bay for majority of the match.
“It’s a good result but it could have been better seeing how the game played out. We played against a great rival and we had good chances. Sometimes the ball just doesn’t go in," Mascherano told http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604’s official website.
"The important thing is that we played a good match and we created scoring chances. The tie is in our hands and that’s the most important thing. It depends exclusively on us."
Barcelona have suffered on their travels of late and Mascherano stated that such phases are part of the game and can be upturned if the team gives its best on the pitch.
"I don’t like to talk about http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Good-Luck-c39444 or bad luck. A lot of teams go through these phases. We have to keep working and give the best of ourselves. That's the best way to change things."
Following the heated Copa del Rey clash, Barcelona return their attention to La Liga. The Catalan side will be hosting Philippe Montanier’s Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou on February 4.
La Blaugrana are second in La Liga standings and trail current leaders Real Madrid by seven points with 18 league matches still to go. Pep Guardiola’s men have have dropped 13 points on their journeys away from Barcelona and hopefully this home fixture will
get them the much-needed three points.
