Javier Mascherano says he wants to leave and Sol Campbell to Newcastle
Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has told new manager Roy Hodgson he wants to leave Anfield this summer.
The Argentinian wants to join Inter Milan and team up with former manager Rafael Benitez. Inter Milan are lining up a £25million bid for Mascherano. Meanwhile, Mario Balotelli of Inter Milan is set to refuse a bigger wage at Manchester United in favour of going to Manchester City.
Balotelli will join with former Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini for around £25million, and his move could see Emmanuel Adebayor depart to Juventus on loan, with both Dirk Kuyt of Liverpool and Diego Forlán of Atletico Madrid heading to Inter Milan. Hodgson wants to sign Mexico left-back Carlos Salcido, with his club PSV Eindhoven demanding around £3million.
Manchester City will offer Shaun Wright-Phillips to Aston Villa as part of a deal to sign James Milner, who held talks with his manager Martin O’Neill yesterday. Aston Villa are hoping they can get £30million for Milner should he leave this summer.
Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia could be making a return to his first club Osasuna. His move could see Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer making the switch to the Emirates, with Arsenal needing a solid No.1. Meanwhile, it is understood Sol Campbell is having a medical at Newcastle United.
Premier League champions Chelsea are closing in on Benfica midfielder Ramires. The Brazilian will cost the club around £20million, but he is involved in a third-party ownership deal with his agent Kia Joorabchian.
Manchester United are considering making a bid of £13million for Steven Defour, as the Standard Liege midfielder is a target for Sir Alex Ferguson, while Ajax manager Martin Jol wants to bring former Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesbrough striker Mido to the Amsterdam ArenA.
Hull striker Kamel Ghilas is a target for French side Arles-Avignon, while Roma want to sign West Ham’s Valon Behrami and will offer keeper Doni or striker Stefano Okaka in exchange.
