Javier Mascherano takes shots at Liverpool & Sir Alex Ferguson defends Bebe purchase
Former Liverpool midfielder, Javier Mascherano, who recently signed for Barcelona, has taken shots at his former club soon after completing his move to Camp Nou. He said that he was promised bunch of lies by Liverpool and promises that they never fulfilled.
The Argentinean midfielder completed his move to Barcelona for 18 million pounds after making his way out of Liverpool. The manager at Anfield, Roy Hodgson had reportedly said that he wanted the player to stay, but Mascherano refused to play in the match against Manchester City and that was actually what instigated his move.
Mascherano said that the club had made several promises to him that were never fulfilled, and blamed Liverpool for a breakdown in relations.
While talking to a British newspaper, he said that the club started to involve my family and said things that actually did not make any sense. He added that he had been suffering for a while and wanted to move out.
He said that Liverpool had promised him something that was not delivered for more than a year, and it had nothing to do with my family. The midfielder added that when one starts to hear lies about himself at the club it is bound to make him angry, and that is when he decided that it is time to leave.
While talking about his former manager Rafael Benitez, Javier said that he was a very good manager, and taught him a lot. He said that the Spaniard showed him how tactics work in the game and he did learn a lot from him. Mascherano went on to say that Benitez would always be someone special to him, as he helped him grow as a player and he will always be grateful to Benitez.
Mascherano went on to praise his former boss and said that Rafa believed in him at a time when probably no one was willing to take a chance on him. He went on to say that he will always be grateful to his former boss for that.
Mascherano said that he loved his time at Liverpool in the first season or so. He said that players like Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Fernando Torres had also helped him a lot in learning to play the English way. The Argentine midfielder said that he would always remember the love he received from the fans at Anfield, and they will always remain close to him. Mascherano is also believed to be taking a pay cut at Barcelona, he was getting paid 70,000 pounds a week at Liverpool but would be getting much less at Camp Nou.
Meanwhile a British newspaper has claimed that Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson made a big mistake when he signed the unknown Portuguese forward Bebe for 7.4 million pounds. The report also claims that United could have got their hands on the player for just 125,000 pounds in January.
The report goes on to say that Bebe was being offered to several clubs in Europe for just 150,000 Euros by Estrela da Amadora. The club was in desperate need of money and was looking to off load the player, but due to him being an unknown quantity none of the clubs were interested in signing him.
Jorge Paxaio, the former Estrela coach, while talking to a newspaper said that the club needed finances last season, and they did everything to off load Bebe but got no response. He said that none of the clubs in Europe were interested, as no one trusted his ability. Jorge said that all the clubs said that he has not played enough at the highest level so there is not enough evidence to prove that he would be able to make it in the top leagues in Europe.
Sir Alex Ferguson, while talking to the media last week, said that Bebe had been making good progress since arriving at the club. Earlier there were reports suggesting that Manchester United’s coaching staff were not impressed by what they saw of Bebe, and it had been a mistake to sign a player that Ferguson had never seen. However Ferguson reiterated that Bebe is on an endurance program, he said that he is working hard to get to the required fitness levels. The Scotsman said that he has seen Bebe himself and was pleased by what he saw, and he has been getting good follow up reports from his assisting staff.
