Javier Mascherano upset at Liverpool's plight
Barcelona midfielder and former Liverpool enforcer Javier Mascherano has expressed his sadness concerning the situation that his former employers have found themselves in. The Argentine
midfielder told The Daily Mail, "I view what's going on there with sadness."
Mascherano went on to state his affection for the club and how grateful he is for what the Reds did for his career. "Liverpool are a club that gave me a lot. I have friends there and affection
for the club. It is unfortunate that they are in this rare and difficult situation."

Mascherano’s words might not sit too well with too many Liverpool supporters, especially following the way he wrangled the move to Barcelona that he so desperately craved. This was after
the Anfield club rescued Mascherano from his West Ham nightmare, giving him the chance to get his career back on track, only to have it thrown back in their faces when a more desirable opportunity came along.
But the player does expect to see his former team-mates lift themselves from their sorry position. "With the players they have and the club they are, they will pick themselves up, it’s
just strange to see them in the situation there are in today."
Mascherano has certainly been a big miss for the Merseysiders, who relied on his tenacity and commitment to set the tone for their play, and get in the faces of their opponents, something
that was hugely lacking against Everton on Sunday afternoon.

Replacing Mascherano with the likes of Christian Poulsen is perhaps a sign of the times at Anfield, as the Argentine one of the world’s best defensive midfielders, while Poulsen is something
of a Juventus reject and has visibly struggled with the pace of the Premier League.
