Paris saint-Germain midfielder Mathieu Bodmer has revealed that coach Antoine Kombouare gave preference to Javier Pastore following the Argentine international’s arrival from U.S Palermo to Parc des Princes.
In an interview to Foot Mercato, Bodmer said that Pastore was his competition as a playmaker at the capital club. Javier Pastore arrived at Parc des Princes causing a big bang in the French League with record signing of 43 million Euros, the highest in French Ligue 1 history. The Argentine international has proved his worth in every appearance for Les Parisiens.
The 22-year-old is already the author of two goals and two assists in five appearances for PSG. Following the exceptional performance of Pastore in domestic and on the European platform, coach Antoine Kombouare had no choice but to confine Mathieu Bodmer to the bench.
The 28-year-old playmaker confessed that though he had already expected this move, he did not feel threatened from the arrival of the Argentinean playmaker. “I’m a versatile player and I can play as a defensive midfielder and I take pleasure in being behind such an advance line of attack.”
The former Lille player further added that with the likes of Pastore in the squad, his game is automatically highlighted. The Evreux native said that his goal is to win trophies for PSG at the end of the season.
With some great talented players at the capital club, a few spats are bound to rise. The Nene-Gameiro squabble in the last match against OGC Nice created an anxious environment at Parc des Princes. According to Bodmer, such character between the players are positive signs for the club. He said that the new recruits are keen to prove their presence by scoring goals.
Arrival of nine new players at Paris Saint-Germain has created an atmosphere of competition among the players and with the help of good leadership, the competition can be directed towards the betterment of the club.
