Javier Pastore says he won't be lured away by money
Money makes the world go round. But it won't budge Javier Pastore.
After speculation that Palermo midfielder could be on the move when the transfer window opens in January, the 21-year-old Argentinian has stated recently that money will not be a factor in his deciding
where he plays.
In an interview with
La Gazzetta dello Sport Pastore was quoted as saying: "Really I never think about money, if I stay it is because I think it is the best decision for my fututre. Money helps a lot, but it doesn't make
you happy. For now I only dream of winning something with Palermo."
One of the major talking points recently has been Pastore's potential move to Spanish giants Barcelona which would see him reunited with his fellow countryman Lionel Messi. Pastore had even been quoted
recently by El Mundo Deportivo as saying that to play for Barcelona would be "a dream".
In his interview with
La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pastore further admitted the dream of possibly playing for Barcelona, but was careful to point out where his current loyalties lay.
"Barcelona are one of the largest and most prestigious teams in the world and Messi is definitely the best player on the planet,"
he said. "I certainly may like to play for a huge team in the future but right now that is not my priority. Today, I am very happy here and I want to stay in Palermo. We are strong players and we want at all costs to reach the Champions League. It can be done
and we all believe it."
Palermo are currently challenging for a Champions League spot in Serie A and sit in eighth with 14 points from 10 matches. Pastore has been particularly effective this season. After scoring only three
goals in 34 league appearances last season, he has already scored four in just 10 appearances this season.
