Javier Saviola pens new contract at Benfica

Saviola, however, was keen to stay with the Eagles and battle it out for a place in the starting eleven. While he hasn’t been successful in doing so, the club has recognized his efforts and has rewarded him with a new contract.
The new deal is expected to tie the 30-year-old to the Lisbon outfit till the summer of 2013. Benfica confirmed that the player had signed the new proposal with a statement issued to the Commission of Securities Market.
“Sport Lisboa e Benfica - Futebol, SAD, in compliance with Article 248 of the Securities Code, has chosen to inform you that it has exercised its option to extend the employment contract that binds sports athlete Javier http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pedro-c29582 Saviola by one (1) sports season,
which runs until June 30, 2013,” the official statement said.
While http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Saviola-c18090 is set to spend another season at the club, it remains to be seen whether he is moved up the pecking order and plays in more games than he did this campaign.
