Javier Souto, Natasha Seijas repent favouring Marlins new ballpark construction deal-MLB Update
Commissioners of Miami-Dade County are frustrated as the Miami Marlins’ fans after their recent extensive payroll cut. The construction deal of the Marlins new ballpark was approved because nine out of 13 of them voted in favour of the project.
The two namely, Javier Souto and Natasha Seijas, believe they would have never supported the deal if they knew the Marlins will remove so many players from their roster in order to save money.
If they had done so back then, the requisite number of votes would not have been gained and the project would have never begun as a result.
Souto is of the view that he agreed because baseball is followed religiously in the South Florida community and thus construction of such a state of the art ballpark was great for the fans.
Javier Souto is criticising the owner, Jeffrey Loria at the moment. Considering him as the root cause of the problem, Souto says Loria does not care what happens to the fans for as long as enough cash is coming into his pocket.
The anger of the Commissioners shows that if they were communicated properly the intentions of the management, they will have gone all out to stop the construction of the stadium. They will have never let taxpayers’ money going into the hands of greedy officials
of the club.
George Burgess, a former Miami-Dade County manager who lobbied at the behest of Loria for the approval of the deal by the Commissioners at that time, says having a ballpark and getting rid of players from the roster are two different things.
He responded to the criticism coming off from various quarters.
“People are trying to connect the stadium deal with the [payroll slashing] and one has nothing to do with the other,” Burgess said. “I’m not making a conclusion on a multigenerational investment based on a decision on trading five players. The facility was
not built for this owner – it was built for this community. Owners come and go.”
Fans will be hoping that sooner better sense prevails and officials start thinking sincerely for the development of the club as a competitive Major League Baseball team.
