Following the UEFA Champions League exit to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127, the Internazionale captain has consoled the fans by stating that the team feels the same way.
The Nerazzurri were left to rue their luck as they went out of the Champions League last night at the San Siro.
Inter were well on course to secure a place in the final-eight of the Champions League for the fourth time running, but Marseille scored in the late stages of the match to deny them that opportunity. The
Nerazzurri won the game 2-1, but lost on away goal rule after drawing 2-2 on aggregate.
The Champions League was a respite for the Inter Milan fans, who have seen their side suffer an abysmal run of form, as they could not register a win in nine matches. That run of form was recently overturned
with a victory over Chievo Verona, but the Nerazzurri are still a long way from the last qualifying spot for the Champions League.
During his interview to the Inter Channel, Zanetti reflected on their inability to qualify by stating:
“It’s hugely, hugely disappointing, because it was a hard-fought match and we really wanted to go through. We were faced with a good Marseille side and created many scoring opportunities.”
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 were extremely unlucky not to go through, as the goal they conceded came in the stoppage time of the second-leg. Claudio Ranieri faced similar misfortunes in the first-leg, as Andre Ayew scored in the
93rd minute of the match in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899.
In his interview, Zanetti went on to appreciate the Nerazzurri fans, who have supported them in this tough time. The veteran mentioned:
“In both games it all happened at the end. Above all tonight we paid such a heavy price, but now we’ve got to get back up and first of all applaud our fans, who supported us throughout.”
He further remarked that it has been a rollercoaster of a season, full of highs and lows, but comforted the Inter fans by commenting:
“Now the fans are sad, but I can assure we are just as sad as you, because all of us wanted to continue the Champions League experience.”
Ranieri’s men will be looking to end the season on a high, and push for the last qualifying spot of the Champions League in a bid to salvage something out of the season.
