The Nerazzurri captain insists that a team like the Beneamata deserve a better standing in Serie A, but believes inconsistency got the better of them in the season.

The Nerazzurri finished the 2011-12 campaign at the sixth spot, and remain without any piece of silverware and out of next year’s UEFA Champions League.
The Beneamata defender insisted that his greatest lament of the season is the inability of the team to perform consistently in each game of the campaign. The veteran stated that the Milan giants were never short in their effort
or their dedication to the game, but insisted that they slipped a bit too many times.
The Nerazzurri captain stated that their position in the Serie A points table, stands evidence to the fact that while they did not lack in their desire to win, they were unable to stand up to their full potential as a unit.
While talking to Inter Milan’s official channel, the 38-year-old said:
“The biggest regret was not being more consistent. We played well at times, but were found wanting in too many games. Our final League position reflects that. The desire was there but all too often we failed to achieve what we
were capable of.”
Inter Milan went through three coaching changes during the campaign, and that also adversely affected their consistency in the league.
However, their latest appointment, Andrea Stramaccioni, lived up to his promise, and is expected to be confirmed for the next season.
Zanetti stated that the young manager understands that he will have to put in a lot of hard work with the Nerazzurri, in order to take them back to the top of Serie A.
