Jaw broken Colin Slade feared to miss the Rugby World Cup
Otago Highlanders and All Blacks fly half Colin Slade is feared to miss the coming Rugby World Cup due to broken jaw.
He has been struck twice by the same injury in the current season and his Super Rugby career is almost over. Slade had a collision with Melbourne Rebels flanker Michael Lipman in their yesterday’s clash of Super Rugby championship.
The severity of injury may deprive the fly half from world championship kicking off later this year in September. He could not participate in the first five rounds of the ongoing Super Rugby as he was suffering from the same injury.
He was quickly taken to the hospital and would undergo the surgery today at evening. Although the recovery time for a broken jaw is normally eight to ten weeks .As he has been struck twice within last six months so it could take more time to heal the wound.
It was a severe blow for his club Otago Highlanders that produced 6th victory of this season against the Rebels. Highlanders are currently placed at 3rd overall position on the point’s tables after playing eight matches in the Super Rugby championship.
Yesterday, they defeated the Rebels with a huge margin of 40-18. It was an interesting match in the beginning as Melbourne Rebels seemed very sharp with the ball but during the middle of the game they looked tired and effortless.
The Highlanders had healthy margin at the interval and they raised it further up right after the break. There was sluggish play from their fly half Robinson as he missed many easy tries in the match. Poki reached the score to 32-6 and Robinson missed a conversion
shortly after that. It looked one sided game during the second part and Highlanders sailed over the Rebels by 40-18.
Slade’s team management is really sorry for him as he has been fallen a prey to a very untimely injury.
Highlander’s general manager Roger Clark talked the reporters and said, “You couldn't get much unluckier, it is both sides now. It was just one of those freak things and you couldn't do anything about it.”
Whereas the All Blacks coach Graham Henry is looking for Daniel Carter to replace him for RWC.
