Jaw clicking it really hurts

hi i have just been to my detist today and they say i need to c a surgeon because my jaw clicks and makes a loud cracking noise and when i eat it hurts and even when i dont eat it hurts do you lot think i will need an operation or just a spint made please help me it hurts really bad

i've felt that before. it took like 3 days, but i only drank water from a straw and small foods. i couldn't afford a surgeon so i just roughed it out.

You have TMJ.  I have it had it my entire life.   I've never had surgery, but an oral surgeon did recommend wearing a plastic mouth guard at night as you may be grinding your teeth in your sleep.  This irritates your TMJ condition.  Also, he recommended doing an exercise where you stick your bottom jaw out in front of your top teeth, and then slowly closing your mouth this way a few times.

Otherwise, surgery is your only option and it involves resetting your jaw.  Ugh.

I had a dislocated jaw some years ago and your symptoms sound similar. The joint used to 'pop out' when I ate which was painful, and I couldn't open my mouth more than about half an inch. I had steroid injections into the space around the joint, microwave treatment and Physio which sorted it.

you probably don't need surgery just try sleeping with a mouth guard at night and it wont be as bad thats what i use, and if it really hurts that bad take some tylnol .
