Little Jax has never seen a dog in his 5 months age. As an totally indoor kitten, he is used to have all the house as his dominions.

Now, my best friend is going to a fancy hotel for vacation and she cant take Lola, her 2 years old pretty cocker spaniel. She asked me to babysit Lola, and i could not say no ... I'm afraid how is Jax going to react to this "invasion"... Any suggestions to make it easier????

  1. Don't just put them in a room together and 'see what happens'

WHen Lola comes over, put her in a separate room. Let Jax get used to her smell under the door for several hours before letting him have visual contact. Don't let Lola run up to Jax, otherwise Lola may get swiped at! Make sure they sleep in different rooms, since you can't monitor them at night.

And perhaps see about getting Jax's nails trimmed before Lola comes over so he can't draw blood!

  2. hiya, first get some of her sent onto a teatowel or rag, dab it about the place where your kitten goes so he can smell the doggy!

let him sleep with the rag and if you can do the same with the dog.

when you introduce them let your cat have the complete RUN of the house so he can get away never ever ever hold your cat when a dog is there.

make sure the dog is on a lead, the cat needs to be up higher so on the sofa, high tree post etc make the dog sit and let the cat have a look at the situation!!

if he runs for it do not let the dog jump up and chase!!

let the cat do what he feels is best, but do not let him get to close he may punch out and a puppy with a stcratched eye from a kitten is not a nice sight :(

after the first 15mins take the dog out and put him in another room, the cat will still be able to hear him, let the cat wander around and smell where the dog has been laying about, after 15mins bring the dog back in let him lay down...its all very slow and takes a long time, but never let the dog off to do his own thing.

remember the cat is king of the house and if his a indoor cat and never seen a doggy before he may not like it, in which case im not sure what you will do with sleeping arrangements apart from keep the dog with you in your bed room or seperate them.

i did not have any luck introducung my kitten to another kitten at 9 weeks!!

so as this cat is older and its a dog...!

i also introduced my older cat to a dog..........he lashed out and run for it and had to be let outsuide he was NOT happy

    good luck though!
