I saw this on a client's account today, and I was wondering what people thought. I'm all for different names... is it gaining popularity as either boy or girl or both?

I'm also liking older names like Stella, Hazel, and Myrtle.

Stella Jaxon

Myrtel Jaxon

Hazel Jaxon

What do you all think?

  1. my friend has a little boy and his name is jaxon(spelled the same way) but i have never heard it for a girl, sorry but i don't care for the older sounding names

  2. I am pregnant and naming my boy Jaxon. I think it sounds like a strong boy name- not a girl. I love stella! That just sounds elligant!

  3. In Australia, Jaxon is a boys name. Stella, And Myrtel are way to old fashioned to me. Hazel is ok, still not keen though.

Saying this though, ts your baby, so your choice

  4. Jamie and Jaxie is just adorable!

  5. Jaxon is indeed on the rise... for little boys.

    Not really girls, though.

  6. No.  No no no no no.  NO.

  7. Sorry, Jaxon is not a girl's name.

  8. I like Jackson for a boy & a boy only. I really hate all these ridiculous spellings for a perfectly good name. Stella is a beautiful name, Hazel is also cute but paired with Jaxon just doesn't look or sound good.

  9. Stella Jaxon sounds like a rock star name i love it!!! the others are very old fashioned, although my fried thinks that hazel jaxon is very cute too!!

  10. Jaxon just seems kind of masculine to me, sorry.

  11. I like Jaxon, but only for a boy.  You could try Jaxa.  Also, I like Hazel and Stella better than Myrtle. :)

  12. i dont really like the name jaxon for a girl but thats just me.  i like hazel, ella, rebekah and maybe max.

    good luck!

  13. I like the name a lot and I think it could go either way. I like the name Remington for a little girl or little boy.

  14. I think it's a cute name for a girl,i like stella also.

  15. I think Jaxon, for a girl, is a bit of a mess.

Let's suppose that Jackson were your maiden name.  In that case, I think it would be perfectly fine to call your son OR daughter Jackson.  Given how popular the name is for boys, it might raise a few eyebrows on a girl.  But when a name has family meaning, I think it's defensible - even if it kind of crazy.

But with a creative respelling, the one obvious reason to use a masculine moniker for a daughter disappears.  In that case, I think there are many, many more appealing names to choose from for a girl.

I also think that siblings names should identify their gender.  If your son is James, it's fine to call your little girl Bailey.  But if your son is Riley, naming your daughter Bailey is confusing.  And while I think Jamison is a great name, it does seem like Jamison and Jaxon are brothers.  I'd be stunned to meet siblings with those two names and learn that one was a girl.

As for popularity, Jaxon went from unranked in 1996 to #188 in 2007.  That's a very quick rise.  Jackson has a longer history of use, but has been a Top 50 pick since 2004.  Jaxson also ranks #311.  Those are all for boys - I've never met a girl called Jackson, any spelling, though I've come across girls called Ryan, Brennan and Dylan.

Now, to your possible names:  I love Stella and Hazel and Myrtle is growing on me, too.

    I'd rank them as follows:

    1.  Stella Jaxon.  She sounds like Jamison's little sister!

    2.  Hazel Jaxon.  It's a smidge more daring than Stella, and maybe not as good a match with Jamison.

    3.  Myrtle Jaxon.  While I like Myrtle, I think her brother is probably Oscar, Henry or Dexter - another geek chic name, not a surname choice with a kind of genteel Southern flair.

  16. I think Jaxon is a boys name, not really universal , YET!

I recently heard of the name kherington

    So my suggestion is:

    Stella Kherington

Also someone else wrote Jaxa for a girl, I think that also cute.

  17. i like hazel - but i guess i'm slightly biased!

i really really like myrtel, it's cute.

i'm not keen on jaxon though. i think of it as a boys name, even with the X spelling.

  18. I like Stella Jaxon

  19. wow! i never would have thought of that! i think its adorable. i could definatley see a girl being named jaxon.

    i also love stella =)

  20. how bout Leslie Jaxon but if not i like Hazel

  21. I like Jackson for a boy so I'm not too fond of it being a girls name. Myrtel is an awful name in my opinion. If you want to use Jaxon how about Olivia Jaxon or Isabell Jaxson?

  22. stella jaaxon is cool

    loren jaxon

    abigail jaxon

    ******* jaxon

    JAXon *******

    jazon stella

  23. Jaxon for a girl - no. it is becoming sooooooooooo popular for boys, and we don't need another unisex name. I love Stella and Hazel.

    also Matilda

    Adeline

    Adelia

    Vivienne

    Violet

    Eloise
