Jay Bayron is in pole position for a victory at the PGM Eastwood Valley Masters
Jay Bayron of the Philippines is in pole position to win his third Asian Development Tour title, as he came flying out of the blocks by shooting a five-under par 67 on day three of the PGM Eastwood Valley Masters.
The Filipino now holds a three-stroke lead over the overnight leader Hsu Mong-Nan, who posted a 71 to slip to the second position on the leaderboard.
Bayron got off to a solid start by recording a birdie on the very first hole on the front nine. Entering the back nine of the Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club, he was two-under par for the round.
He then birdied each of the 10th and the 11th hole and added another shot on the 18th hole to finish the day with an 11-under par overall score.
He currently ranks third in the Asian Tour Order of Merit and knows that a victory this week will take him closer to the lead in the standings.
As a result, he will also get closer to earning his Asian Tour card for the 2013 golf season, as the top-three players from ADT will receive full-time playing rights for the upcoming year.
“It is so important for me to earn an Asian Tour card. If I win, I think I will definitely finish in the top three of the Order of Merit at the end of the season. It is going to be an exciting final round for me,” said Bayron.
Talking to the reporters after finishing his round, he gave credit of his strong position in the tournament to his solid putting technique.
“I putted very well and if I can continue to play like how I did, I’m sure I can win. I like this golf course and I seem to read the greens well,” said the 38-year-old.
The Malaysian star, Nicholas Fung, who recorded victories in each of the last two weeks, also matched Bayron’s score of 67 and finished five strokes behind the leader.
He now plans to post another solid round on Saturday to provide himself a chance to record his third victory in a row.
