Jay Bayron shares club-house lead with Himmat Rai at ICTSI Philippine Open – Asian Tour
The ICTSI Philippines Open continues to be more exciting. The second round of this 72-hole championship commenced early morning today, as quite a few players looked in great form. It was the local lad Jay Bayron who surprised the leader-board and shares the club-house lead.
Bayron took advantage of the early morning conditions of the course and carded another round of three-under par, 69 for his round. All the eyes were jelled to him as he played some exceptional golf shots during his round. The veteran looked in great touch with his smooth putter as he was holding his putts on the greens.
Bayron started his round one behind the overnight leaders, Himmat Rai and Thanyakon Khrongpha of Thailand. He had a repeat performance as he again carded a similar round of 69 on the second day.
The veteran Bayron looked solid during his round. He amassed four birdies and only made a single blemish during his round. His lone bogey came on the finishing par-4, 18th where his tee shot was a little wayward. He was stuck in thick rough from where he had to be content with a bogey.
This was a superb performance by the local hero Bayron as there were high hopes from him. Although he is not a known player, he was a surprise on the leader board as he shares the clubhouse lead with Rai of India.
Bayron has a 36-hole score of six-under par, 138. He along with Rai leads the field by a close margin of just one shot.
The local hero Bayron, after finishing his round, said, “This is a very difficult golf course and I’m very surprised to shoot six-under after two rounds. Winning on the Asian Tour especially my national Open will be a dream come true. Hopefully, I can win and put my name on the trophy.”
Rai is still on the course and completing his round. He is through to the first nine holes and is two-under. The 23-year-old Indian made two birdies on his first-nine and is yet to play on the back-nine.
Rai continued his birdie streak and is yet to make a bogey on his score-card. He is the club-house leader along with Bayron.
