Jay Bayron tops the Asian Development Tour Order of Merit
Jay Bayron of the Philippines finished tied for the seventh position at the weather-shortened Yeangder ADT, to win the Asian Development Tour Order of Merit title.
Bayron was not able to complete his final round campaign at the National Garden Country Club, after the torrential rain surrounded the venue course.
Later in the evening, Adnan Othman, the ADT’s Tournament Director of the Yeangder ADT, made the announcement to call off the day. Therefore, the final results were determined on the basis of players’ third-round scores.
At the end of the day, Bayron pocketed $3,420 as prize money, which increased his total season earnings to $34,309.
Hsu Mong-Nan of Chinese Taipei and Peter Richardson of England followed him with season earnings of $28,309 and $27,202, respectively.
The top-three players in the Asian Development Tour will now receive invitations to play on the Asian Tour in 2013.
Talking to the Asian Development Tour’s official website, Bayron admitted that he was feeling pressure, heading into the final event on the 2012 roster.
However, he held his nerves and maintained consistency in his game, in a bid to post a decent score on the leaderboard.
“I felt a lot of pressure coming into this week because a lot of guys had a chance to chase me on the Order of Merit.  I’m glad I hanged on to my position and I’m feeling very confident to play on the Asian Tour next year,” he said.
According to him, he was more than happy to skip the difficult two-week Asian Tour’s qualifying tournament this season.
“Now, I can focus on improving on my game for the upcoming season,” he said.
Richardson, in the meantime, is also relishing the opportunity to play on the Asian Tour next season. After spending a successful year on ADT, he now plans to keep the momentum going onto the bigger stage.
“I knew I had to play well because some of the guys behind me played really well. I have the confidence and belief that I can play well and be among those guys on the Asian Tour. I’ll have to prove it next year,” said Richardson.
