Jay Bruce’s triple RBIs helps Cincinnati Reds beat Philadelphia Phillies, 6-3 – MLB Update
Cincinnati Reds’ outfielder, Jay Bruce had an extraordinary day as he went 1-for-5 and hit three RBIs in the Reds’ 6-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia on May 24.
Bruce was satisfied with the way he batted right through the game. Speaking to reporters, he said, “I blew it the first time with guys on second and third and one out. I just tried to relax and get something I could handle. Coming back is kind of our M.O.
We're never out of a game. The experience has helped us.”
The Reds’ batters started pretty well as they scored in the very first inning when Scott Rolen singled to right-field and Joey Votto posted one run. The Reds were leading 1-0 at the end of first inning. The Phillies went ahead 2-1 during the second inning
by the two runs of Ryan Howard and Raul Ibanez collectively. Howard posted a run when Ibanez doubled to right-field and Ibanez contributed a single on the sacrifice bunt of Domonic Brown.
No score was added in the third inning from both sides as the batters were unable to play the tricky throws of the pitchers. The Phillies were on top in the fourth inning as they got a 3-1 lead when Ibanez scored his second run of the game on the drive of
Carlos Ruiz off to deep left-field spot.
The game was levelled 3-all in the fifth inning when the Red’s batters took charge and posted two runs. Johnny Cueto and Drew Stubbs both completed their two runs on the single-run shot of Brandon Phillips towards the right-field. Phillips then moved to
second base on the throwing error of Brown.
The Reds’ Manager Dusty Baker pointed out some errors but was content with the win. He said, “We missed some opportunities early and I was afraid that would come back and haunt us. This was a big game for us. We really needed this one.”
The batters from both teams were restricted from scoring any runs from the sixth to the eighth inning but in the last inning, the Reds’ batters stepped on the gas and scored three runs to give their squad a convincing 6-3 lead. Stubbs, Votto and Rolen each
singled when Bruce hit a double-run shot to deep right-centre field.
