Jay Spearing: Liverpool will give all it takes to play in UEFA Europa League next season
Liverpool midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jay-Spearing-c18106 insists Liverpool will fight for the fifth place in the Premier League to play in the UEFA Europa League in the 2011-12 season.
The club’s youth academy product said that the Reds will have to continue their good run of form if they want to snatch the berth from Tottenham Hotspur.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 are currently in sixth place on the Premier League table with a total of 45 points and are four points behind Tottenham Hotspur with the latter having a game in hand. Tottenham have also qualified for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League
and will face Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg.
Spearing expressed his disappointment on being knocked out of the UEFA Europa League after a 1-0 defeat on aggregate to Sporting Braga and claimed that the Reds would come back stronger than ever to try and win the competition next season.
“We want to go on a great run now until the end of the season and try and clinch that fifth place. It was disappointing to go out of Europe but I don't see why we can't achieve that fifth place,” the midfielder said in an interview to the club’s official
website.
Spearing admitted that if Liverpool continue to play like they did against Sunderland and Manchester United recently, it will be very hard to stop them. The central midfielder also described the clash against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday a crucial one
for the Reds as a win would definitely put pressure on the Spurs.
“The run-in is okay. We've got a few difficult games but they will also be difficult for the opposition. If we play like we did last Sunday at Sunderland and also like we did at home against Manchester United then I don't see why not. We need three points
from our next game at West Bromwich Albion to put pressure on the other teams,” said the 22-year-old.
Liverpool will play West Brom at the Hawthorns and will face their former manager Roy Hodgson, who is currently managing the West midlands side on Saturday, 2 April 2, 2011.
