Young Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing is waiting to be given another opportunity to prove himself after being given his first Premier League start for the Reds against Everton on Sunday. The 22-year-old said that there were positives
to be taken from the 2-2 draw with local rivals Everton, which could be used to put Liverpool’s season back on track.
Spearing is confident that Liverpool will get a decent result against the Wolves, whom they will play over the weekend. He said, “The way we played in the first half is the way we need to play all the time. We’ve got a full week
of training before our next game at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 and if we show the same fight and desire we showed in the derby we will be winning games again.”
Under new manager Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool were brilliant in the first half, easily outplaying Everton. It was http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 who scored the first goal which gave the Reds a 1-0 lead. However, Everton replied with two goals of
their own in the second half which saw Liverpool chasing rather than leading but thanks to a penalty by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dirk-Kuyt-c11348, Liverpool managed a draw.
Spearing admitted that being selected in the squad came as a surprise to him and said he hoped to get another chance. He continued, “I found out I was playing during training when the boss told me I was in his team. It was a bit
of a shock to be honest but this is what I've been working hard for all of my life and now hopefully I can get another chance.”
Ryan Babel handed £10,000 fine over Howard Webb picture
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Babel-c31971 has been handed a fine of £10,000 and has been given a warning for his future conduct after the player criticized referee Howard Webb on a social networking site, Twitter. Babel posted a Photoshopped picture of Howard
Webb wearing a Manchester United shirt with a comment which read, “And they call him one of the best referees? That's a joke. SMH (shaking my head).”
The tweet came after Liverpool lost to Manchester United in the third round of the FA Cup under controversial circumstances. Manchester United were awarded a penalty in the first minute and shortly after Liverpool skipper Steven
Gerrard was sent off, leaving http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 a goal down with 10 men.
Even though Babel posted an apology on Twitter shortly after explaining his reaction, it was a case of too little too late. The FA has decided the player’s comments were something to be made an example out of so as to not be repeated
again. With the hefty fine comes a severe warning to be more careful in the future and the player will have to attend a regulatory commission hearing.
Roger Burden, the regulatory chairman, said, “Social network sites must be regarded as being in the public domain. All participants need to be aware, in the same way as if making a public statement in other forms of media, that
any comments would be transmitted to a wider audience. It is their responsibility to ensure only appropriate comments are used.”
