Jayasuriya happy to see the World T20 being played in Sri Lanka – Cricket News Update
Sri Lanka’s former skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ST-Jayasuriya-c2567, is delighted to see his country hosting the ICC World T20 2012 and expressed hope that the tournament will turn out to be a successful one.
“I’m delighted that such a prestigious tournament is being held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and I hope that the tournament is a successful one and we see some fabulous cricket during the course of the competition,” said Jayasuriya while talking to Pakpassion.
The mega event is going to start today at Hambantota, with the opening fixture between the hosts and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 looking to defend their title, having won the
tournament’s previous edition, held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in 2010.
The Island emerged as a major cricketing force during the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 1996, winning the illustrious competition for the very first time.
The former hard-hitting opening batsman admits that the tournament, held in the sub-continent changed Sri Lanka’s fortunes in international cricket. Jayasuriya also hopes that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397 and company will do well in the forthcoming event.
Jayasuriya was named as the Player of the Tournament for his astonishing display of hard-hitting at the top of the order.
“As a team we really developed during the 1996 world cup and our plans and methods really came together in that competition,” he added. “It was wonderful to be part of such a historic occasion for Sri Lankan cricket and I hope we will see a repeat performance
in the upcoming tournament.”
Sri Lanka has struggled to do well in international cricket since the retirement of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hettige-Don-Rumesh-Lahiru-Thirimanne-c63124 and Jeevan Mendis have established themselves
in international cricket over the last six months.
In the presence of some experienced players like Jayawardene, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691, Sri Lanka do hold a strong chance in the tournament. The recently held Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) also gives the home team a slender edge, with
all their players getting used to the T20 competition.
The previous three editions of the World T20 have been highly successful and one expects the current tournament to follow a similar fate.
