The right-handed batsman along with the skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739, provided his side with the highest opening partnership of this year’s edition - 135 runs, which helped the team to seal their six win of the competition by 37 runs.
“Opening the innings gives me more opportunities to go for runs, hit boundaries during the powerplays, then try and control the situation," said Jayawardene.
The 34-year-old veteran further admired the efforts of his teammates and attributed the win to a combined endeavor. "We would like to play like this. Credit to all the boys,” appreciated Jayawardene.
This remained Jayawardene’s best innings in the tournament so far. Prior to that, his highest score was 20 not out, which came in his first ever outing for the Delhi franchise, since joining them from the now defunct Kochi Tuskers. His timely return to form will be a relief for the outfit, as they remain keen on cementing their place in the semi-finals of the competition, following a poor last season.

His power-hitting is well-known to the Delhi fans, so accommodating him at the top could see a re-shuffle in the batting order – with Jayawardene again slotting in at no.4.
However, the Lankan skipper is not fazed by the current scenario and claims that he is ready to play in any position.
