Jayawardene relieved after win against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians – Cricket News Update
Delhi Daredevils skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397, expressed his delight after his side finally won their first match of the ongoing Indian Premier League tournament against Mumbai Indians.
Having lost six games in a row, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 were handed a tricky run-chase after the Indians had set a competitive 162. However, the home side cruised to victory, finishing the game with 18 balls to spare.
With http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Warner-c1301 struggling for consistency, Jayawardene made changes to the line-up, which further included promoting himself to open the innings.
That move ultimately paid dividend as Jayawardene and Sehwag slammed the bowling to all parts and added a whopping 151 for the first wicket, scoring just a touch under 10 runs per over. Sehwag, who has been overlooked for the national team duties in recent
time, did the bulk of the scoring, nothing up an unbeaten 95 off 57 balls, which included thirteen fours and two sixes.
Jayawardene gave him ample support by scoring a deserved half-century, before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SL-Malinga-c2540 caught him lbw. David Warner then partnered Sehwag to put the finishing touches to the victory.
The Delhi skipper was pleased with his side’s victory and explained the reasons for not opening in the earlier matches, despite achieving plenty of success at the top in the previous edition.
"Losing Kevin [Pietersen] and Jesse [Ryder] prompted me to go down the order as we needed some solidity in the middle. But since our batting unit did not click, it was a call that I had to take," he said. "I spoke to David [Warner] about it and told him
that I wanted him to play the role that Kevin played last year."
The Lankan veteran went on to praise the performance of his opening partner, who went on to scoop the Player of the Match accolade.
"We complemented each other very well. As it is, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HA-Varaiya-c1520 took a lot of pressure off me and my job was to give him more strike. His batting also allowed me to play freely and I could control the innings. We kept talking to each other, that we should not get
carried away with good start."
