But the home skipper is confident his batsmen will counter Pakistan spinners well. While speaking to media reporters ahead of the start of the knockout stage, Jayawardene predicted a good contest on Thursday.
"We have played each other quite frequently and there have been good contests," said Jayawardene at the pre-match press conference on Wednesday.
"We have some quality guys and we play spin quite well. We need to make sure that certain things we execute, we execute it properly," he added further.
Sri Lankan team has been impressive right from the start of the tournament, and they have reached the semi-finals based on a stupendous all-round performance. After finishing the Super Eight stage unbeaten, the Islanders will be brimming with confidence going into Thursday’s match against Pakistan.
Jayawardene said that after a hard work of three months they have finally found the right combination capable of winning the coveted trophy.
"We have been planning for this tournament for three months or so when we played http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in Twenty20 and ODIs. We knew the players we wanted in the squad,” said the top-order batsman.
"We have got the right combination going and the guys have put their hands up and performed. At the end of the day that's what matters in big tournaments," he added.
