Jayawardene wants an improved performance in the field – Cricket News Update
Having won the 2nd One Day International (ODI) of the 5-match series, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397, the Sri Lankan skipper, is not taking things for granted and wants his bowlers and fielders to enhance their game in order to register a comprehensive series
victory over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
The Black Caps opted to bat first after winning the toss and posted a very competitive total of 250 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets. Taking into account the inexperience of the visiting team’s batting line-up, a number of sporting pundits have
slammed the home side’s bowling performance, as they offered a lot of loose deliveries.
The Kiwis’ skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SL-Malinga-c2540, none of the Sri Lankan bowlers were able to make an impression against the
hard-hitting middle-order batsman.
"I really enjoyed bowling in a 50-over innings. My fitness was good. I will try to improve it further," said the Sri Lankan spearhead after the match.
The Islanders however, batted out of their skin as well and had scored 118 runs by the 22nd over of the innings for the loss of three wickets before rain intervened. No further play was possible, which ensured a 14-run victory to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 according
to the Duckworth/Lewis method.
Because of the rain, losing the toss, in Jayawardene’s opinion, turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the home team. While talking about his impressive knock (43 not out off 49 balls), the Lankan captain expressed that the pitch was suitable for stroke-play.
The seasoned cricketer does not want his side to repeat the fielding mistakes in the upcoming matches.
"It was probably a good toss to lose. We would have probably chosen to bat first as well. We were not too good in the field. We dropped a few catches and we have to improve on that," said Jayawaradene. "It was tough to see when the rain would come in. We
were having an eye on the Duckworth-Lewis par score after the rain came. We felt comfortable out there and it came on to the bat well after the rain."
