Jays wavied wells and mcdonald wavied why?

the toronto blue jays wavied center vernon wells and ss john mac why is jp ricardi doing this?

To help out someone trying to make that final playoff push.  The Jays are out of the playoff race and the Blue Jays most likely wouldn't be bringing either player back next season, so they are dumping their contracts.  Look for Wells to be picked up by either the Rays, Yankees or Twins.

It's just part of managing. Testing the waters to see if there is any interest in the players. If Riccardi can improve the team through a trade, that is what he'll try to do. The players are still on the team and still on the 25-man roster. Waivers in baseball are recallable, so if a team tries to claim them, Riccardi will recall the player and phone the GM of that team and say "So...how badly do you REALLY want John McDonald?.."

Problem is, Riccardi is completely incompetent and much more concerned with getting his ugly face on TSN and Sportsnet than in building a decent team.

A lot of teams do this, especially small market teams who are out of contention. The Jays are clearly dumping payroll and looking to the future.

Sounds like a salary dump since Toronto's going nowhere and will probably lose Wells anyway so they want to trade him now and at least get something.  Once the trade deadline is passed, only players that have cleared waivers can be traded.  If someone claims that player, the player is withdrawn.  It's just how the system works.

He's waving bye-bye to their paychecks so he can make some money!! Seriously though, they probably had some offers from other teams like the Yankees, etc that are trying to make the playoffs and figured they weren't going to re-sign them next year anyway. Kind of like the Reds did with Dunn.

He probably did it to make room on the 25 man roster. He may think that with their salary they will pass through waivers and if claimed the would receive compensation.
