Jayson Velez defends his undefeated streak against Jose Angel Beranza in non-title bout - Boxing news
Jayson Velez, the former WBO Latino super bantamweight champion, will enter in his careers biggest and most probably the toughest bout when he takes on veteran Jose Angel Beranza in a non-title bout on March 24, 2012.
The bout will headline ‘Boxeo Boricua In Caguas: It’s My Time’ pay-per-view which will be televised live on Saturday on Telefutura. The ring for the event will be stretched at Roger Mendoza Coliseum situated in Caguas, Puerto Rico and the whole pay-per-view
is promoted by Miguel Cotto Promotions and H2 Entertainment.
Jayson, 24, is a surging pugilist who has been in a total 17 professional bouts and came out victorious in all. He has collected 13 of his total wins by knocking the opponent out cold. Jayson has grabbed two titles in his short but impressive career.
Also known as ‘La Maravilla’, the Puerto Rican proud nailed Pedro Rincon Miranda to win the vacant WBC United States (USNBC) super bantamweight title and collected a unanimous decision win over Carlos Valcarcel to become the interim WBO Latino super bantamweight
champion.
His opponent for the Saturday night bout is a far more experienced brawler who has been in a whopping 58 bouts. The 35-year-old Jose does not possess an intimidating resume despite of being a part of so many engagements. Widely known as Pepe, Jose has won
34 bouts and 26 of them by knockout.
He has lost 22 bouts and collected two draw decisions which perfectly tarnishes the Mexican’s resume. During the announcement of the event the duo expressed their sheer excitement at the engagement and put forth their determination to win.
Jose took on Sebastian Daniel Rodriguez and collected a knockout win in the ninth round to become the WBC Latino bantamweight champion. This was the last accomplishment that Jose grabbed.
During the press conference Jayson Velez said, “This fight motivates me even more because I know good things are coming for my career. I am 110% prepared and ready for the big names in my division. I will defeat Beranza.”
Beranza also shared his firm determination to nail the young lad in front of his home crowd. Jose commented, “I’m going to Puerto Rico to beat the one called “La Maravilla”. I came very well prepared for this fight. And I will beat him at his hometown.”
The event will also witness the brawl between Jonathan Vidal and Felix Perez and will give a debut chance to many young lads.
