Jayson Werth activated from disabled list by Washington Nationals as he joins the line-up - MLB
The Washington Nationals have liberated the outfielder Jayson Werth from the disabled list now. He has become part of the line-up as an immediate effect of the move. He is returning to the side after passing through a lengthy rehab process.
By the time he was injured, the Nationals were put in a serious dilemma as some of their quality hitters were already missing.
That was a big blow for the team's offence. Since it was the start of the season, the existence of any type of weak-link in the offence may have derailed their quest easily. In turn, it may have taken them out of contention right from the beginning.
Thanks to the timely decision by the Nationals’ manager Johnson that resulted in the entry of a Minor Leaguer in the season, the bigger damage was avoided.
As the Nationals called up their rookie outfielder Bryce Harper, the offence was rightly strengthened again and that the effect of the absence of Werth was not allowed to disturb the performance of the team.
Furthermore, Werth’s injury accompanied the reality that Michael Morse had not played in the season due to the injury.
Therefore it can be said that the role of the Nationals’ rotation in leading the team to victories at the start became the real source of their success. If the starters like Stephen Strasburg and Gio Gonzalez have not been impeccable on the mound, long-winning
streaks that they enjoyed will not be possible.
Right now, Werth will be enthusiastic to deliver splendid performances on the plate. The kind of dominance he exhibited in Spring Training and the huge home-runs that he struck there will be in his mind. For having found the opportunity in the season now,
he will be looking to replicate those shows.
Meanwhile, manager Johnson puts light on the kind of personality Werth is and how he can lift the team’s offence.
“He’s a character,” Johnson said. “He’ll be on me. Kind of miss that. He’s such a gifted athlete, it’s great to have him back.”
With Werth back and Harper, Ryan Zimmerman and Michael Morse making great contributions for the Nationals, it can be stated that the team is heading toward becoming an invincible side in the season.
