Jayson Werth helps Washington Nationals experience boost before regular season - MLB Update
Jayson Werth spurs an enthusiasm to Washington Nationals with his stunning home-run. Rallied around by defeats, manager Davey Johnson needed something spectacular from players to get his side going smoothly.
As he was looking for a consolation victory in last few Spring Training games and having been unable to find it, today’s 12-0 win against New York Mets will mean much to him. Scoring as many as 12 runs in one game is a kind of boost Johnson will take positively
ahead for the regular season.
Not just Werth alone, whole offensive front of Nationals stood up together and sent hits all across the park. What changed an atmosphere of game was a massive homer by Werth, landing so far that ball fell in the players’ parking lot. Some said Werth own
truck parked there was dented as a result of hit.
“Right now, it’s more of a rumor, folklore,” said Werth. “I think they are messing with me. But if it is dented or smashed, cracked or shattered,” said Werth, smiling at his last word, “I kind of foresee it staying that way for a while.”
It seems as if with one game the Nationals have returned right on their way and even in absence of some of their hitters like Michael Morse and Adam LaRoche, who are struggling with injuries, they can become a formidable opponent in the season.
Some believe since, most of the runs in particular homers struck by their hitters were at pitches of Matt Harvey, starter for New York Mets, a player who is not yet considered with little Big League material, Nationals can go slow in believing that they
are perfect with their preparations for the regular season.
For Johnson it was more about victory and momentum gaining than about going deeper and finding negatives. Sure about talent his side possesses and the kind of impact they are capable of striking during regular season, only think he believed his side may
have missed had they continued losing in Spring Training was lack of confidence.
“I think we’re about ready to go to the whip,” Johnson said.
As paucity of confidence in a team can result into a performance way below their actual talent, hits coming off Ian Desmond, Danny Espinosa and Ryan Zimmerman, along with a sense of pleasure Werth added with his belligerent show in the game are healthy signs
for the Nationals.
