Jayson Werth sees progress in left wrist and will likely come back in late July - MLB Update
Sharp improvements on left wrist of right fielder Jayson Werth encourages the Washington Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson to talk about his return in the season. Going by the current pace of his progress, Johnson maintained, Werth will be back immediately
after the All-Star break.
Werth is hitting .276 in the season. His ability to thrash homers and contribute activity on bases was being touted as the major reason why the club will be witnessing fireworks half-way through the innings during the season.
An issue with his left wrist had spelled a bad time for the Nationals’ offence. One of the reasons why they failed to see hits coming off was the absence of Werth in the line-up.
He, along with Michael Morse and Ryan Zimmerman, form an ideal combination and hold extreme significance to an overall success of the team.
Auspiciously for the club, surgery Werth had gone through and metal plate which was placed in his wrist, have put him on a fast-track to recovery now. As per the manager, he is improving faster than expected.
He will be back earlier than the time-line which was set immediately after the injury was reported, he elaborated.
“The good news is, the MASH troops are kind of coming around,” Johnson said. “It’s great, instead of seeing casts on their ankles and wrists, and tubes coming out of their stomachs. I come in there today, and everybody is walking around, in the weight room.
It was nice. At about the midway point, we should have a lot of guys champing at the bit.”
However, Johnson does not think that Werth will resume baseball activity until All-Star Break. Right now, the club is waiting for X-Ray that he will have within few weeks. From there, exact condition of his wrist will be known. That will largely decide as
to when he will move to plate and begin taking at-bats.
For so long as Werth stayed out from the season, luckily, the Nationals had their rookie right fielder Bryce Harper in the line-up. Harper rightly filled the vacuum, proving a reliable hitter. In this connection, once Werth returns, offence will be strengthened
further.
