Jayson Werth’s decisive RBI helps Washington Nationals beat Colorado Rockies 3-2 - MLB Update

Washington Nationals’ right-fielder, Jayson Werth had a notable day with the bat as he hit a final RBI and posted one run with 1-for-3 at-bat in the Nationals’ 3-2 win over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Colorado on August 7.
Both teams were unable to get off the mark during the first inning as at the top of the first inning, Rick Ankiel had a walk but at second base, Danny Espinosa grounded out and at short-stop, Michael Morse grounded out.
Similarly, the Rockies’ batters also struggled as Dexter Fowler walked and Troy Tulowitzki singled off left-field at the bottom of the first inning but the rest of their team-mates got out on easy pitches as Eric Young Jr. and Ty Wigginton both grounded
out at third base without scoring any run for the Rockies.
In the second inning, the Nationals posted their initial two runs to take a 2-0 lead. Jonny Gomes struck a two-run homer (420 feet) towards left-field and Werth put the second run on the Nationals’ score-card. The pitchers controlled the runs from third
to sixth inning of the game as they threw their tricky pitches at the feet of the batters.
Nationals were struggling during the sixth inning and missed the scoring opportunities as at short-stop position, Morse grounded out while Werth and Gomes both struck-out swinging without giving their team even a single run. On the other side, the Rockies
posted a couple of runs during the seventh inning to tie the game 2-2.
Gomes said, “None of his pitches are going to be true -- sinker, cutter, slider, all of them have movement. I have had success off him. Even though you have had success you have to go in there with a clean slate.”
Carlos Gonzalez reached towards first base on the error of the Nationals’ first baseman Morse and Jonathan Herrera added a single run. The second or tie run for the Rockies was taken by Young when Wigginton drove a single-run shot towards left-field. Gonzalez
occupied third base to end the seventh inning.
At the top of the eighth inning, the Nationals went ahead 3-2 by posting one run on the score-board. Espinosa contributed a tie-breaking run when Werth singled off left-field.
After winning a nail-biting encounter, the Nationals were able to level the four-game series 2-2.
