  1. OK i am a dancer too. If u do tap it kinda wastes ballet. Jazz can be sassy and sophisticated and modern is for people who are limber and flexible who is elegant, too. I think modern is best for 12 year olds because that is the age most people start at.

  2. My sister danced for about 17 years so my answer comes from my experience of sitting through 17 dance recitals.  To me, I think Modern would be interesting.  Jazz is different because it involves a lot of basic steps, whereas Modern is more contemporary.

Also, you are never too old to learn a new dance.  Go for it!

  3. im in tap jazz ballet pointe hip-hop and modern, to tell you the truth tap would be very difficult to learn at 12 but its my favorite class so if youre up for a challenge go for it.

modern is a mix of jazz and ballet kind of stuff, jazz is really fun tho, like the other person said, leaps turns and alot of other steps. but its not hip-hopish. i would say its a faster, funner version of ballet. and in jazz your leg in turns dont have to be knee to the side, its knee to the front which makes it alot easier. i love all the classes youre thinking about taking. so hope this helps!!

  4. I would say Modern, though Jazz is more conformed. Modern can let us be a little more open and creative.

  5. i have done all 3. there is a HUGE difference between jazz and modern. modern mostly ballet, and its kinda like you are acting while you are dancing. modern you may have to act like you die in a dance, or my most recent modern dance was to winter song by sarah mclaughlin how she is in a snowstorm and she misses her boyfriend but she has no way to get to him, so it has a lot of emotion. jazz is happier, but if you have a lot of ballet, modern is the way to go=] but definetly either jazz or modern, tap may be hard to learn at 12=] good luck♥

  6. its never to late to learn anything. my personal favorite is tap.

  7. You can pick up tap, but the younger kids will make you feel silly until you get better. I started when I was16, and then quit a year later due to work issues. Nonetheless, I picked up quite a bit in that time frame!

    Good Luck!

  8. I would go try each one before settling on one. Each person has different talents, and you may find you really enjoy one over the other. Modern will be similar to ballet, so that may come easy to you. Jazz will have some things that are somewhat familiar. Tap will be the most foreign, but you may love the challenge. 12 is definitely not to late. I have been tapping for over 20 years, and there is always new people coming into class. The studio will understand you want to try each one before making up your mind, so go have fun and decide for yourself.

    Good luck!

  9. modern, is more flowing, movements, and is more technical, while jazz is more hip-hop ish.  i think you should do modern, i LOVE it ;D

and its never to late to learn something. ;p

  10. I have done all those classes and if you ask me then i would pick tap. Only because jazz and modern are,in a way, like ballet. Tap is completely different. Its different type of dance and VERY fun. There is nothing cooler then watching people tap. You get all these different types of sounds and it looks like you are barely even moving your feet sometimes when you hear them.

  11. In jazz you are more controled then in Modern you tend to throw yourself around.

    .

If you want to do modern  do you like to throw yourself around? if not i would do jazz.

  12. ive done jazz and tap! tap is alil tough to learn but id do jazz! ive been doin it for 4 yers and im 13 and i lvoe it! the other years i did tap and ballet but jazz is my fav!

u do turns, splits, leaps, kicks, and crazy movments! and u use tons of energy! its awesome!

  13. Its never too late to learn tap! Jazz is more upbeat, I'd say...almost like hip hop.  I've always thought modern was kind of like ballet when I used to dance.
