Jazz Janewattananond wins Singha All Thailand Championship – Golf news
Thailand’s Jazz Janewattananond fired a nine-under-par 63 in the final round of the Singha All Thailand Championship to secure an emphatic five-shot victory over Gun Charoenku and Thanyakorn Khrongpha.
The tournament was being staged at the Laem Chabang International Country Club, featuring some of the best players on the Asian Tour.
The victory not only allowed him to move to the 52nd place on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, but also, he secured his berth in this year’s edition of the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open, scheduled to be held in September.
The Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open will be a co-sanctioned event by the Japan Golf Tour and the Asian Tour, and will offer a total prize fund of 150 million Yen (approximately US$1.48 million) to the participants.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he expressed his pleasure in making it into the elite field of one of the biggest events in Japan.
According to him, a victory this year will greatly boost his confidence to tee up strongly in big events on the tour and improve his rankings in the Asian Tour Order of Merit. If he succeeds recording a couple of more strong finishes, he may become eligible
to secure his Asian Tour card without going to the Qualifying School at the end of the season.
“I am really happy to win the title and earn the ticket to play in Japan,” Jazz told the Bangkok Post. “I hope to perform well there to boost my ranking on the Asian Tour so that I can keep my card.”
“My game is much better than last year as I’m playing more consistently now. I like playing offensively but it has costs me a lot each time I make a mistake,” added the young Thai.
Wade Ormsby, Boonchu Ruangkit and Lam Chih Bing were the other three players who received invitations to tee up at the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open, courtesy of their top-three finishes in the Panasonic Open India earlier this April. They will participate
in the event on the Sponsor’s exemption, as the tournament in India was also sponsored by Panasonic.
