Jbe Kruger set for an epic showdown at the Iskandar Johor Open
Jbe Kruger is set to make a final charge on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, when he tees off this week at the Iskandar Johor Open. The tournament is slated to start from December 13, 2012.
According to the schedule, the US$2 million event will be staged at the Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club, featuring a star-studded field.
The Iskandar Johor Open is known for attracting a strong field each year. This year too, the event has reeled in some prominent names, including the likes of Sergio Garcia, Thaworn Wiratchant, Ernie Els and Ryo Ishikawa.
Kruger, who currently ranks third in the money list, believes that he still holds the chance to become the Asian Tour Order of Merit champion, by winning the season-ending event in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
Last week, the South African entered the final round of the Thailand Golf Championship, sharing the seventh position on the leaderboard.
Therefore, he had a great chance to narrow down the gap to the top of the Order of Merit, with a strong finish in the event.
However, the 26-year-old faltered for a three-over par 75 in the final round, which dragged him down to the share of the 28th position on the leaderboard.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he expressed his disappointment in finishing poorly in the second-last event on the Asian Tour roster.
“It was unfortunate that I didn’t get the result that I wanted last week,” he said.
He also admitted that he will have to hold his nerves, in a bid to perform well in the tournament.
“I’ll have to win this week in order to win the Order of Merit. But it’s definitely not out of my hands. There will be pressure, no doubt and I just have to learn to manage it to the best of my abilities,” said Kruger.
“I’ve been knocking on the doors for a couple of seasons and it was nice to finally win in India. As I said after my win then, I want to win again and that’s the goal that I’ve been working towards,” added Kruger.
