Jbe Kruger shares the clubhouse lead at the Malaysian Open – Golf News
Jbe Kruger took the clubhouse lead at the Maybank Malaysian Open before the bad weather conditions forced the second round to be suspended on Friday.
Kruger was among the early starters of the day and returned to the clubhouse after carding an impressive seven-under par 65 to share the top spot with Otto Hennie. In total, he carded eight birdies against a lone bogey.
He said that he aims to improve his iron shots, which, according to him, can earn him another Asian Tour victory in the last three months. His earlier victory came in the Avantha Masters in February.
"My game is a little bit better,” he said. “I've been working on a lot of things and it seems to be coming together which is always a good sign. I just worked a bit on my swing which is not really a 100 per cent yet. My ball striking used to be my strength
and now it is my weakness”.
Meanwhile, Hennie displayed a flawless performance to put an impressive score on the leaderboard. He managed to score eight birdies to finish at eight-under par 64.
He told that he did not have much time to practice prior to the start of the tournament, as he arrived late in Malaysia.
Therefore, he only managed to find time for a walk at the course that helped him in getting an idea about the playing conditions.
“I have been playing well recently and we are taking small steps and gradually getting there,” he said. “Most of the work that I have been doing is really on the mental side as opposed to the technical side of things and I am sticking with and trying to
build on that momentum”.
At the time of the suspension of the game, a total of 75 players were still on the course, still waiting to complete their second round.
Therefore, the tournament officials announced to continue the game early Saturday morning.
Louis Oosthuizen, who lost to Bubba Watson in the Masters Tournament’s playoffs, was one stroke behind the leaders. He still has seven holes to play in his second round.
