Jean Basson seizes Men’s 100m freestyle gold: Day four – 2012 Arizona Invitational
Jean Basson of FORD-AZ seized gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle on final day of the 2012 Arizona Invitational in Mesa, Arizona on Monday, May 28.
The 24-year-old Basson demonstrated his stupendous efforts in the two-lap event and proved his eligibility for the crown of the discipline.
With his impeccable efforts and commendable pace, Basson faced no difficulty in occupying gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 51.97 seconds.
He was chased by Luke A Pechmann of Arizona-AZ, who stayed 0.41 seconds apart and tapped the finishing end with the timing of 52.38 seconds for silver medal.
Third position of the discipline was occupied by Mitchell Friedemann of Arizona-AZ, who stayed 0.28 seconds apart and stepped on the victory stand for bronze medal with the timing of 52.66 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Simon A Burnett of FORD-AZ, who stayed only 0.08 seconds behind and tapped the wall for fourth position with an effort of 52.74 seconds.
Burnett was chased by Dan H Jurgs of Gmsc-AZ, who stayed just an inch slower from overwhelming his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall for fifth position with the timing of 52.81 seconds.
The 20-year-old Jurgs enjoyed an advantage of nearly half body length over his subsequent swimmer, Brian J Stevens of Arizona-AZ, who secured sixth position of the discipline by reporting a time of 53.46 seconds.
Stevens remained just 0.05 seconds faster from Jason A Lawson of PSC-AZ, who managed to outperform his closest swimmer over the finishing end for second last position of the event.
Lawson stayed just a touch faster from his following swimmer and posted a time of 53.51 seconds for seventh position.
He remained just 0.02 seconds ahead of Kyle M Shores of PSC-AZ, who failed to make a significant improvement in his qualification time and secured eighth position of the discipline with the timing of 53.53 seconds.
The arena appreciated commendable efforts of all participants in the playoff of the 100m discipline whereas the podium finishers were called upon the medal rostrum for their medals at the medal distribution ceremony of the championship.
