Jean-Claude Dassier replaced by Vincent Labrune as president of Olympique de Marseille; Ligue 1 news
In a shocking turn of events, Jean-Claude Dassier has been removed from presidency at Ligue 1 club, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127, and has been replaced by Vincent Labrune. After two years of running affairs at the Rhone giants, the 69-year-old has been dismissed
from his post following a meeting of the supervisory board. The meeting was attended by all leaders and stakeholders except club owner, Margarita Louis-Dreyfus.
Vincent Labrune has now taken the position as the new President of Les Phoceens. Initially, the 40-year-old was the chairman of the supervisory board of the club and held that position since January 2008. A few days ago, Jean-Claude Dassier had said that
he would be looking to leave the club by 2012. However, his forecast was proven false and he now leaves Stade Velodrome after serving for two years.
Rumours suggest that Dassier’s mismanagement of the Didier Deschamps case when he was linked to a move away from the club was not liked by the Marseille direction. Furthermore, financial mismanagement at the club was another factor that might have contributed
to Dassier’s termination. Reports suggest that the club is currently under a 10 million Euros debt, an amount the club direction never predicted at the start of 2010/11 Ligue 1 season.
Arrival of a new president is not the only thing the club has experienced. Philippe Perez is now the new Director General of the club. On the other hand, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sporting-89-c40576 Director Jose Anigo will now have a bigger role at the outfit as his role was limited during
Dassier’s reign. Furthermore, Marseille’s biggest shareholder, Margarita-Louis Dreyfus, has agreed to give coach Didier Deschamps 20 million Euros in order to bring in new faces at Stade Velodrome.
Changing the president of the club signals to winds of change at the club. Dassier did manage to run affairs soundly during his tenure but some believe that the 69-year-old lost the plot this season. Furthermore it has been said that Dassier’s strained relationship
with Didier Deschamps might be another reason why the direction chose to let go of the former TF1 journalist.
