Jean-Eric Vergne, Red Bull maintain dominance at Young Driver Test – Formula 1 news
Jean-Eric Vergne of Red Bull has led the day at the Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi for the second day in a row.
Vergne drove well throughout the day with his best time of 1 minute and 40.118 seconds which is only one tenth shy of his first day exploits but still a very good effort. The performance also shows the dominance of the Red Bull’s RB7 leading on both days.
The young driver did have some trouble with his car’s KERS which caused him to complete only 43 laps.
Like the first day, Jules Bianchi came in second in his Ferrari setting his best time at 1 minute and 40.279 seconds. Bianchi drove well too and has been very much involved in the adjustment of the car to his driving style and working with the team to work
on the aerodynamics which shows good commitment from the young driver.
Gary Paffett was in at third setting the track time of 1 minute and 41.756 seconds which is good although it is 1.568 seconds off Vergne’s best time of the day.
Oliver Turvey shared the car with Paffett on Tuesday but on Wednesday Paffett had it for the whole day, but his car stopped in the final stages of the day which resulted in the track being red flagged.
Valtteri Bottas gave an impressive performance on the second day and came with the fourth best time of the day in his Williams car which is still running an updated 2012-spec exhaust. His best time was 1 minute and 42.367 seconds which is a much-improved
performance and Williams’ engineers and the team will be happy to see the new exhaust giving a good result.
Bottas after completing 88 laps thanked the team and left for the airport in a hurry heading to Macau where he is to take part in the Formula 3 race due this weekend.
Johnny Cecotto Jr took over the car from Max Chilton who drove it for Force India on Tuesday. Cecotto set the fifth fastest time of 1 minute 42.837 seconds for his team after completing 84 laps.
Esteban Gutierrez was driving the Sauber C30 and finished with sixth best time at 1 minute and 43.637 seconds. Driving the Mercedes was Sam Bird finishing 7th best at 1 minute 43.734 seconds.
Kevin Korjus came set the eighth best of 1 minute and 43.776 seconds driving the Renault R31. Luiz Razia came in at ninth and Kevin Ceccon at 10th, with the first one driving for Lotus and the latter for Toro Rosso.
