Jean-Eric Vergne dominates Young Driver Test on final day in Abu Dhabi – Formula 1 news
Red Bull’s Jean-Eric Vergne has led all three days of the Young Driver Test and set the third day’s best time at 1 minute and 38.917 seconds which is much better than the first two days.
Vergne drove well throughout the day. The performance clearly shows the dominance of the Red Bull’s RB7. Like the previous two days, Jules Bianchi came in second in his Ferrari setting his best time at 1 minute and 41.347 seconds which is one tenth shy off
his second day’s best time. Oliver Turvey came in at third driving the McLaren setting a best time of 1 minute and 42.346 seconds.
Max Chilton was next in line in his Force India car, VJM04. Chilton sat out the Wednesday’s running but showed today that he should have been given more time as he made up for yesterday by setting fourth fastest time which was only 0.272 seconds slower than
the leader Vergne.
First appearance of Alexander Rossi driving the Lotus was impressive as he set the fifth fastest time. Sauber driver Esteban Gutierrez was next setting the sixth fastest time but slower than his previous two day best times.
Stefano Coletti was seventh driving the Toro Rosso which he will hand over to Kevin Ceccon for the rest of the day. Winner of F2 championship Mirko Bortolotti got to test the Williams car FW33. He finished with 8th best time which was only 0.2
seconds ahead of Nathanael Berthon in the HRT car.
Sam Bird drove the Mercedes with an updated upper-exiting exhaust which is designed in accordance to the 2012 regulation changes made by the International Automobile Federation (FIA). He set the 12th fastest time of the day.
Overall, it was a good morning session again on the final day, it has shown some good up and coming drivers though it remains to be seen how they make their entries to Formula 1.
