Jean Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso not trying to make an impression on Red Bull Racing – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso driver Jean Eric Vergne has expressed that he is not trying to make an impression on Red Bull Racing in 2012 Formula 1 season so as to secure a race seat with the defending champions in future.
Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner said that they will look forward to replace one of their own drivers with any one of Toro Rosso’s pair, Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo, if they will feel the need.
Nevertheless, the French driver said that he is not impressing Red Bull and is only focusing on performing at his best in the approaching season.
“Some people will tell you that we are in a fight for the Red Bull cockpit, but I don't see that right now,” Vergne told the official Formula One website. “I am racing for Toro Rosso and I want to help make the car a points contender. I have no interest
finishing in P15 ahead of him. I'd rather finish in P4 behind him if that meant I had a quicker car. Did I just say finish behind him? No, I don't think that I would like this! (Laughs) Only the part about fighting at the front is true. Forget about the rest.”
He is currently at 13th position in the drivers’ standing in the season so far with 4 points and following the Japanese driver, Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber-Ferrari.
Furthermore, his best performance in the season until now was in the second race held at Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia in which he secured 8th place finish.
Additionally, he has not been able to score even a single point in the season opener in Australia, the third race in China and fourth race in Bahrain.
Besides, when he was asked that whether he feels contended with his performance after the first four races of the season, he said that he could have performed better.
He also said that he does not consider himself a rookie in the sport as he has been able to develop himself as a complete driver. He added that he is targeting to show some competitive performances in the races ahead.
