Jean-Eric Vergne satisfied with his performance in 2012 F1 season – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso’s Jean-Eric Vergne has stated that he is satisfied with his performance in the 2012 F1 season but he could have done even better.
He said, “I wasn't too excited about the result immediately after the race, as you always want more and I do think seventh was possible, but with a bit of time to reflect on the result, it was nice for both me and the team to finish the last race in the
points. It feels like positive way to end 2012.”
The driver added that he secured the eighth place four times during the season that earned him 16 championship points. He said that to achieve this when one does not even have a strong car is something he is very proud of. He insisted that he could have
done more but for a debut season in F1, he is satisfied and it was certainly a successful season for him.
Vergne told that learning about the sport has been more important to him than scoring points in his first season. He said that understanding one’s car is most important but then a driver also has to put effort outside the car such as developing a good relationship
with the engineers.
As Toro Rosso has confirmed Vergne for 2013, he is looking forward to applying what he has learned this season in the next one.
“All I want now over the winter is to put all I've learned together and arrive back next year with, hopefully, a better car, more experience, more skill and hopefully I'll have an even better experience next year,” he said.
Vergne was the runner up in the Formula Renault 2.0 series in 2009 and won the British Formula Three Championship in 2010. Next year, he finished in second place during the Formula Renault 3.5 series. The same year he took part in the Abu Dhabi Young Drivers
test for Red Bull Racing; drove for Toro Rosso in Friday practice sessions towards the end of the season and was then confirmed as a Toro Rosso driver for 2012.
