Jean-Eric Vergne to drive for Red Bull through Young Driver Test programme – Formula 1 news
Jean-Eric Vergne is the young talent that Red Bull Racing has confirmed to drive its 2011 car in Abu Dhabi at the Young Driver Test later during November.
Earlier Red Bull expressed that they may pick Vergne as their test driver through the programme but it was not officially announced but with some good performances, Vergne made sure to grab the opportunity with both hands.
Young Vergne has been tipped as a potential Toro Rosso and Red Bull race driver for the upcoming years. His performances have shown some potential. He finished runner-up in the recently finished Formula Renault 3.5. Vergne will be completing his test for
Toro Rosso on Friday in the remaining Grands Prix left for the season, to be held in Abu Dhabi and Brazil. He has also driven for STR at last year’s Young Driver Test.
The Young Driver Test is going to take place the week after this season’s second last Grand Prix race in Abu Dhabi from November 15 to 17. It has been designed for drivers with less than three Grands Prix of experience.
“I'm extremely happy that Red Bull Racing has given me this opportunity, it will be a massive experience for me and to be driving the best Formula One car is something quite amazing. I will make the best out of the three days, it will be an important three
days and I'm looking forward to it,” Vergne said.
Other prospecting drivers confirmed to take part in the test so far are Mirko Bortolotti for Williams, Sam Bird for Mercedes and Jules Bianchi for Ferrari. Adrian Quaife-Hobbs will be testing for Virgin.
The chance to drive a contemporary Formula 1 car is part of the programme and both the teams looking for potential drivers and the drivers benefit from the programme. Vergne would be a prime example of the programme, and hopes to do the best he can to showcase
his worth.
Vergne spoke about the opportunity and said, “I'm really looking forward to driving the RB7 in Abu Dhabi. I know the track already and have had some track time in a Formula One car this year, which will help.”
It will be interesting to follow the careers of these young prospects and see how well they show their mettle in the sport.
