AS Nancy, who are 19th in the league at the moment, failed to capitalise on their early lead against Rennes, and lost the match 3-2 in the end.
However, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jean-c18112 Fernandez is pleased with his side’s fighting spirit. While talking to reporters, the Nancy coach stated that despite the defeat, there are a lot of positives to be taken from that game.
The 57-year-old said that scoring twice against a team like Rennes is a great sign and has urged his players to continue playing aggressively like that. However, the coach is not pleased with his side’s defence and feels that they conceded easy goals that
cost them dearly.
"The positive for us was that we scored twice, something we hadn't managed for four matches but we conceded too easily.”
Fernandez added that after scoring early in the game Les Chardons should have held on to their lead a bit longer, which they failed to do so. Rennes then scored couple of quick goals and made things really difficult for Les Chardons.
“We opened the scoring but Rennes quickly made it 2-1. At 3-1, it was complicated, even though we pulled one back and had other chances,” the 57-year-old told reporters.
The coach said that Nancy lack confidence at the moment and they need to work on that in order to get back to winning ways.
“We're lacking confidence and calmness, and you can see it in our play.”
The former Lille coach believes that the match against Rennes has helped his strikers, Benjamin Moukandjo and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Djamel-Bakar-c11362, and has backed them to score on regular basis.
“The most important match is the one on Saturday [when Montpellier come calling] and I hope that having scored tonight will free up our strikers [Benjamin] Moukandjo and [Djamel] Bakar for the games to come.”
Fernandez is still optimistic about his side’s chances this season. The coach said that Nancy are ready to face reigning champions, Montpellier, this weekend, and has urged his players to play to their potential.
