Jean Fernandez talks about rough start to Nancy tenure – Ligue 1 news
AS Nancy Lorraine coach, Jean Fernandez is one of the most respected and experienced coach in Ligue 1 and though he has seen a lot of things happen in football, the former Auxerre coach has admitted that he is surprised at how slow a start he has made as
Nancy coach.
Nancy won their first game of the season in Week 11 at the expense on OGC Nice. It was a horrendous start for the Lorraine club.
After the end of the 2010/2011 season, Pablo Correa left the position as coach of Nancy and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jean-c18112 Fernandez took on the managerial hot seat at Nancy. The Frenchman was given the target of ending the current season for Nancy without the dilemma of fighting
for survival.
The 57-year-old is certainly under pressure http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AS-Nancy-c38468 are currently in 19th place in the Ligue 1 standings and could be in for a long campaign indeed.
On Saturday, Nancy will face highflying Montpellier which would be a difficult test for a side that has made a woeful start to the new season. While talking to the media, Fernandez admitted that things have been difficult for everyone at the club and added,
Since the start of the season the results have not been there. We knew we'd have a tough start to the season, but not this difficult.”
Fernandez indicated that a lot of movement in and out of the club resulted in poor performances in August. However, Fernandez insists that his side’s performances in the early games of Ligue 1 could have been victories but his side did not have luck on their
side.
Fernandez also blamed the departures of Michaël Chretien and Youssef Hadji as the reason for the club’s slow start to the season.
"A lot of players left. But what bothered me was the loss of two players in the final two days of the transfer window, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Youssouf-Hadji-c37599. They left after we'd already played four league games,” said Fernandez before saying that his players
were getting to know eachother when the two left.
However, Fernandez has said that his side has the ability to make a comeback and get themselves out of the tricky situation as there are still a lot of points to fight for.
