The Troyes coach was left frustrated and disappointed after seeing his side crash out of Coupe de la Ligue at the hands of Stade Rennais on Thursday
Troyes came second best against Frederic Antonetti’s side at Route de Lorient in the quarter-finals of Coupe de la Ligue on Thursday. And coach, Jean-Marc Furlan is not impressed with the way his side performed on the pitch.
While talking to reporters, the Frenchman stated that Rennes were clearly the better side of the two and the result is a fair one keeping in mind how poor Troyes were at the start of the match. The boss added that he is really frustrated with the way his
players started the game against a very impressive Rennes side.
"We're frustrated and very disappointed with our performance against a very good Rennes side on Thursday,” said the coach.
The match was being played at Route de Lorient and Furlan believes that playing away from home didn’t help their cause and Les Rouges et Noirs took full advantage of the home conditions. The coach added that playing at home is always important especially
in the Cup competitions and he is disappointed with the result.
“It's certainly an advantage to play at home in the cups, for a range of reasons.”
However, the 55-year-old is taking positives from the game despite the defeat and has stated that the lads struggled to find their feet because he shuffled the team for the match. Despite all that, Troyes did pretty well in the later stages of the game and
the boss is pleased with that.
“I am really proud of the lads, who struggled a bit because I re-jigged the team.
Furlan added that few of the players were playing after a long time and that was the reason behind the first goal Troyes conceded. However, they did well to get back in the game and ESTAC posed all kinds of trouble to Rennes on the pitch, but it just wasn’t
their day.
“That explains the first goal we conceded, but then the lads played the way I know they can and created quite a few chances.” the Frenchman told reporters at a press conference.
