The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 supremo feels that the club is going in the right direction and also hinted that the club will not scale down its ambitions
Qualifying for the UEFA Champions League was an economic priority for Olympique Lyonnais. The players know that president Jean-Michel Aulas does not want his side to miss a 13th consecutive appearance in the elite European competition.
However, Aulas says that he is not obsessed with UCL only because of the financial windfall. The president says that the competition has become a tradition of the club. Aulas said that he had a meeting with senior players of the team and the young players
where he told them about the importance of playing in the Champions League.
“I showed them the totems of players who helped us qualify for the Champions League 12 times. And before you speak, I made them listen to the anthem of the competition. Me, it makes me shiver. This is not about the money. It is a matter of chills.”
Certainly, there is something different and out of this world about listening to the music playing in the background.
Furthermore, playing in the UEFA Champions League next season is important for the club as the club’s fans have become accustomed to seeing their side play in the competition year in year out.
Aulas also spoke about the club’s failure to mount a title assault. The Frenchman believes that though the club has changed its lifestyle, the ambitions will remain the same.
The Lyon supremo said that after a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Montpellier, a club that may well become the new Ligue 1 champion, was a major reason why Les Gones are out of contention for the Championelle.
“This season we missed the title when we played Montpellier with 15 absentees. If we win or draw, we can be champions,” says Aulas who is keen on seeing the club win more Championelles.
However, lessons would already have been learned over the course of the season and in Remi Garde, Lyon might have found the right man to lead the Rhone side to further glory.
