Despite elimination in the Champions League, Olympique Lyonnais president Jean-Michel Aulas is satisfied with the performance of coach Remi Garde and has hinted that the Frenchman will be offered a new contract
The sinking was very close. Olympique Lyonnais had hit the iceberg in the pre-quarterfinal of the Champions League when they lost on penalties to APOEL Nicosia. Elimination at the hands of the unfancied http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cyprus-c2881 giants was probably the worst moment of the
campaign for a side whose fortunes have changed drastically in recent seasons.
However, thanks to Remi Garde’s persistence, Lyon have recovered well and are still in contention to qualify for the Champions League.
And club president, Jean-Michel Aulas is satisfied with how far Remi Garde has come in his first coaching stint of a Ligue 1 club.
“Remi was the great instigator of a new beginning. He left a little space to players reminding them that the best performances were achieved when solidarity was at its highest.”
After experiencing the ostracism of Claude Puel, Aulas is delighted to have appointed a coach who relies on advice of everyone to take the club forward.
“I liked that he listed to everyone without getting in trouble. He made his own philosophy and adapted. The man, whoever he is, is more likely to succeed by challenging.”
Aulas then said that he never doubted Remi Garde’s coaching skills no matter how adverse situations got during the campaign. Aulas also said that the way Garde has restored confidence in the team is something that is not given to everyone.
Inevitable, after so much praise, there is little doubt that the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 supremo wants to extend the contract of Garde. The French tactician was given a one-year contract which will expire at the end of the campaign. However, Aulas says that he
is not going to rush into giving Garde a new contract.
“He knows that Lyon is here and I do not want to rush him. We planned to see (extension) when the time comes.”
Remi Garde has already said that if Lyon fail to secure a UCL spot, he might reconsider his future at the club but Lyon and Aulas would do well to extend the contract of a coach who the club needs more than he needs them.
