Jean-Michel Jalinier says Renault will confirm 2014 engine supply deals soon – Formula 1 news
President of Renault Sport F1, Jean-Michel Jalinier has said that they will hopefully confirm their engine supply deals for the 2014 Formula 1 season by the end of June 2013.
The French engine supplier is presently supplying engines to Red Bull Racing, Williams, Caterham and Lotus. It has been recently confirmed that they will provide engine for the Milton Keynes-based squad for the next season and will take on a fresh partnership
with Toro Rosso.
Furthermore, Caterham and Lotus are expected to stick with Renault too. However, the French manufacturer will split with Williams at the end of this season as the British team has signed a new deal with Mercedes-Benz for the next year and beyond.
Jalinier has said that they are very well prepared to supply five engines in the next season and will finalise their agreements before the end of the coming month.
“For Renault Sport F1, we have stated on numerous occasions that we would supply up to five teams if there was a requirement to do so, but this would not make sense economically or be ideal for our resources,” Jalinier said.
“Three, or up to four, teams is the ideal for us so the departure of Williams normalizes the situation and makes things much clearer from our side. We will announce the next team within a matter of days, and then confirm the final stage before the end of
June. We remain incredibly motivated about the challenge of the 2014 engines,” he added.
In addition, he expressed immense gratitude towards the Grove-based team and asserted that they have a very strong relationship with them. Besides, he said that they share a very long history with the British squad and cherished some memorable moments with
them at their victory in Barcelona during the last season. He also said that they are hoping to work well together until the very end of this season.
There are going to be some dramatic changes in the technical regulations by the FIA in the next season. Let’s see whether Renault will be able to provide competitive engines to the teams or not.
