The former Bayern Munich striker reckons that the Reds will emerge as easy winners against the Ligue 1 side and that only http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 are better than the Reds.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international believes that Bayern Munich will not have enough problems in eliminating Olympique Marseille from Europe. As the Reds prepare for the first-leg of their last eight fixture against Les Phoceens, Papin
has rated Bayern as clear favourites. Both sides will lock horns on Wednesday, March 28, at the Stade Velodrome.
Bayern are currently enjoying an amazing run in all competitions compared to Marseille, who have had a poor season thus far. The French side are currently in ninth place on the league table and are a staggering 20 points adrift
of leaders http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Montpellier-HSC-c39945.
Papin also mentioned that Barcelona are the only side which is better than the Bavarian giants at this stage. He believes that the Catalans would beat Jupp Heynckes’ men if they are to meet in the final of the competition at the
Allianz Arena on May 19. However, the 48-year-old rated Bayern as superior to Real Madrid in terms of their attacking prowess.
While talking to official Bayern website, Papin further added that:
"Overall, I think that Bayern are on the same level as Real Madrid. Only Barcelona are slightly better. I think that the attack will make the difference [in the game versus Marseille], and Bayern have the best front line in Europe
with [Mario] Gomez, [Arjen] Robben, [Thomas] Muller and [Franck] Ribery.”
When asked about the possible outcome in the first-leg, Papin mused that Marseille might be wary of conceding an away goal and therefore could field an all-out defensive side. He also confirmed that Les Phoceens will find it extremely
hard to keep Bayern at bay for the entire 90 minutes as they head into their most difficult game in recent years.
"I expect a scoreless draw in the first leg. I know Didier Deschamps pretty well and I expect him to field a defensive side. I think this is Marseille's most difficult game in years," Papin concluded.
Bayern will return to the league action on March 31, against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/1-FC-Nuremberg-c38162 before hosting Didier Deschamps’ side for the second-leg on April 3.
