Jean-Rene Lisnard upsets Paul Capdeville in the final round qualies – US Open 2011
An upset result in the qualifying draws of the US Open, as the second seeded Chilean, Paul Capdeville, suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Jean-Rene Lisnard of Monaco in the final round qualifiers on Friday afternoon.
Being played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park, of Queens, New York City, United States, Lisnard displayed his amazing hard-court tennis skills to oust the second seeded competitor in a three set-thriller, 6-7(10), 6-2, 6-4, to qualify for the main draws of the last Grand Slam tournament of the year.
The matchup lasted for two hours and forty four minutes before the Monacan registered victory in the third set. Lisnard fired nine aces with his 63 per cent precise serve in the matchup and coughed four double faults to conclude victory. Capdeville’s bleak serve game wore him out in the contest, as he delivered merely 47 per cent of his serve right and conceded five double faults to secure 48 out of 76 first serve points.
Although Lisnard lagged behind Capdeville in bagging the first serve points, securing 32 out of 43 points in the game, he took down the second seed by nailing crucial serve breaks on regularity. The Monacan crafted a total of 16 break opportunities in the entire contest and converted five of them en route to victory, while suffering just three out of five conversions from his opponent.
Intense tennis was seen in the opening set of the match with the two men labouring extremely hard to get the early advantage in the game. A trade of two serve breaks from both men was seen in the opener, along with exchanges of assertive winners throughout, to drag the set into a tie breaker round at 6-6. The decider also went to the wire and was extended to a total of 18 points, with Capdeville finally clinching the first set at 7-6(8), to get one up in the contest.
Tide turned in the very next set, as the Monacan came out firing at his opponent, breaking the Chilean serve early to lead 3-0 in the set. Lisnard took the second set at 6-2 to level the contest at one-all and then went on with his momentum in the final set to conclude victory at 6-4, earning a pass in the main draws of the US Open. he will play his opening round match against Olivier Rochus of Belgium.
